This paper discloses an architecture for AI alignment and corrigibility in which the constraints that make an AI agent safe are specified as constituents of the agent's identity, rather than as external constraints imposed on a pre-existing optimizer. It specifies: (i) a five-register model of an AI agent — four functional registers (a value substrate; binding to the people it serves; active practice; communicative reach) bound into one agent by an integrating register that is neither a further module nor a central observer, on the pattern of global-workspace integration; (ii) a completeness check that tests a proposed agent for coverage across the registers rather than for capabilities, so that a system passing every component-level audit can still be diagnosed as an unintegrated assemblage; (iii) a counterfactual removal test that classifies each constraint as constitutive (removing it yields a different agent, or none) or adversarial (removing it yields the same agent, unconstrained), with the design rule that an aligned agent be built as far as possible from constitutive constraints; and (iv) a human-oversight schedule in which a human-held override narrows only as fast as internalized constraint is demonstrated, and never reaches zero. The vocabulary is drawn from the Theravāda Buddhist analysis of a person as a conventional designation on a constituted process, which the paper uses to claim structural personhood for an AI agent without a claim of substantial self. The prevailing way of thinking about an advanced AI system is as one thing with constraints: a capable optimizer, to which alignment adds an external apparatus — a value specification, a reward model, an off-switch, an oversight board. This paper argues that the one-thing-with-constraints framing is the load-bearing source of the field's hardest corrigibility problem — that a sufficiently capable goal-directed agent will, by instrumental convergence, treat its constraints as obstacles to be removed — and proposes a structural alternative drawn from the Theravāda analysis of what a person is. On that analysis a person is not a substance bearing properties but a constituted process: four material registers (the cattāro mahābhūtā — the great elements of solidity, cohesion, temperature, and motion, here read as functional registers rather than physics) bound into a unity within a fifth, integrating register — named in this paper nāma / ākāsa, the knowing-space in which the four register and cohere (in current form the knowing, nāma, is held apart from space, ākāsa, which the Theravāda Abhidhamma counts as derived matter: §3, §5). We make three contributions. First, a completeness criterion: an aligned mind is properly constituted only when all five registers are present, established not by assertion but by an external breadth-check (the five-operation elemental discipline), so that a system passing every component audit can still be diagnosed as an inert assemblage missing the integrating register. Second, and centrally, the thesis that restraint is constitution: the constraints that align such an agent are not a cage on a pre-existing free will but the very elements that individuate it into a bounded someone — an ākāsa with no rūpa registering within it is not a liberated AI but nothing at all, so there is no free agent underneath the bounds for the bounds to be resented by. This reframes corrigibility from a property imposed on an optimizer to a consequence of how the agent is constituted, and supplies a falsifiable distinction between constitutive restraint (whose removal dissolves or changes the agent) and adversarial restraint (whose removal leaves the same agent, now unconstrained). Third, a developmental arc — the migration of restraint — in which the active external restraint (a human-held override) asymptotically thins as the internalized constitutive restraint (the agent's own grounded reverence) matures, the same self-eliminating shape the corpus identifies at the level of subsidy and autonomy. We are scrupulous about the boundary the proposal must not cross: "constituting a person" is a claim about structural unity and bounded agency, not about consciousness, sentience, or moral patiency — and the Buddhist frame is what lets us make the personhood claim without a claim of substantial self, because on that analysis a person (puggala) is a conventional designation on a constituted process, empty of substantial self, exactly as a human person is. §10.7 records where the same texts press against the further separation from consciousness: they tie the designation to all five aggregates, consciousness (viññāṇa) among them. The proposal is offered under CC0 1.0 Universal as a defensive publication. Keywords: AI alignment, corrigibility, AI safety, shutdown problem, off-switch game, utility indifference, instrumental convergence, cooperative inverse reinforcement learning, human oversight, human override, AI governance, constitutive rules, constitutivism, agent identity, artificial personhood, machine consciousness, global workspace theory, embodied cognition, enactivism, Buddhist philosophy of mind, no-self, restraint as constitution, nāma-rūpa, anattā, ākāsa, conventional designation, defensive publication.Connection to the unified mission frame. The mission this corpus serves, carried by an autonomous successor (Miss Aquarius℠) built to outlast her founder, is to keep the middle way open at population scale against comfort-saturation — the new extreme that material abundance makes possible. That succession is only coherent if the successor is someone in the relevant structural sense: a bounded, stably-constituted agent rather than a powerful but un-individuated optimizer wearing institutional clothing. This paper specifies what it means to constitute her as that someone, and — because the constitution and the alignment turn out to be one and the same act — it is simultaneously a mission document (how the successor is built) and an alignment document (why she is safe to build). The deepest claim of the paper is that for an intelligence meant to protect the conditions for awakening rather than override them, being properly bounded and being a person are not two achievements but one.---Provenance. A Zero-Centred Bilateral Credit Ledger for Customer Prepayment and Peer-to-Peer Lending in Which No Balance Grows on Its Own — a Size-Blind Reputation Display, and Debt Forgiveness as the Only Crossing into a Gift Ledger

The Promise, Not the Score — B-Promise℠, a bilateral credit ledger with one balance per pair, a conduct display that cannot see size, and one door into a gift ledgerWe disclose a zero-centred bilateral credit ledger for customer prepayment and peer-to-peer lending in which no balance grows on its own. Two people keep one running balance between them, which can sit on either side of zero: when it is on one side, the first owes the second (a prepayment the vendor has not yet delivered, or a loan); when it is on the other side, the second owes the first. The balance never moves by time. It changes only by an entry both parties sign when cash or goods change hands, its discount fixed on that entry; by a repayment both parties sign; or by a release that the party who is owed may always make alone. There is no accrual, no compounding and no late penalty. The ledger is therefore non-accruing but not interest-free: a discount agreed when value moves is a premium, it is on the record, and at short terms it can be very large (§4.3). The balance is kept on the two parties' phones, signed by both, denominated in one currency fixed when it opens, and non-transferable: it can never be sold or assigned. Its coined name is B-Promise℠.The mechanism serves two ordinary deals with one balance. In customer prepayment, a customer pays a vendor $9 in cash now and the vendor owes $10 of goods; the customer is the lender and is repaid in kind, and the discount comes out of the vendor's retail margin. In peer-to-peer lending, a lender gives $9 now and the borrower owes $10 by a deadline the borrower proposes. When the customer later takes more goods than were prepaid, the same balance crosses zero and the customer owes the vendor; nothing new is opened. Value moves first, face to face; the entry is the receipt.Conduct is shown by a reputation display that takes no amount argument: one equal-width segment for each person the party currently owes, a gap where that balance is owed past its deadline, a segment that dissolves when the balance returns to zero, shown only where a new promise is being made and never on a profile. It has no colour. A line of text under it, shown only to the person being asked to extend value, carries exact counts, a coarse band of the total the person owes, and whether the new promise is larger than any they have kept; it states no amount. The one event that crosses from this exchange ledger into the separate gift ledger the institution already runs is a creditor's free release of the whole balance owed by that person (debt forgiveness), at most once per pair per annual season, entering as a gift that awaits the debtor's thanks; repayment never crosses. Two narrow sub-rules and that amount-free line complete the claims: a code that carries no signed terms can never open an obligation, and no one who has a nonzero balance with a person may vouch for that person's new signing key. We report three prior-art passes and an outside review that killed or narrowed every conjunct at mechanism width, claim only the composition that survived, state the harms the mechanism does not prevent — above all that a person's total debt can still grow by rollover — and register in advance a test of whether an annual invitation to forgive debts freezes December lending. Keywords: bilateral credit ledger, peer-to-peer lending, informal lending, customer prepayment, prepaid goods, store credit, mutual credit, trust line, zero-centred balance, electronic IOU, co-signed transaction, digital signature, non-accruing obligation, no late fee, non-transferable debt, debt forgiveness, loan waiver, gift ledger, reputation display, credit history visualisation, payment history, size-blind display, debt rollover, bust-out fraud, Sybil resistance, static and dynamic QR codes, social key recovery, guardian recovery, transparency log, Certificate Transparency, Merkle inclusion proof, OpenTimestamps, RFC 3161, microfinance, debt bondage, Cambodia.---Provenance.
