This study is based on the results of a 2021 research, which emphasized the need to mainstream tobacco control programs and projects through strategic budgeting. Taking off from this concept, this succeeding study aimed to estimate the possible total amount that the Philippine government may need, assuming that all LGUs up to the city and municipal levels will have a ‘starter kit’ budget – that is, one percent (1%) of either the annual local health budget or 1% of their Local Investment Plan for Health (LIPH).
In the process of estimating this needed amount, correspondence with different LGUs from different levels and income classes has provided valuable insights on the local budgeting system and the various behaviors and priorities of both the LGUs and the national government in the process. These include compliance of LGUs in terms of plans available for health, the presence of funds that can be used for multi-sectoral concerns or ‘convergence funding’, presence of statutory obligations of the LGUs, and the directions brought by mandates from the national government that attempt to ensure alignment of LGU PPAs with national plans. These provide a challenging landscape for pushing forward a budget solely for the TCP.

AbstractSince its return to democratic rule in 1999, Nigeria has never encountered a period of military dictatorship, but democratic aspirations are still influenced by socio-cultural conflicts. Previous reviews are limited in addressing the ways in which the concept of ethnic pluralism, patron-client relationships, Ubuntu communal philosophy, religious identity, and gerontocratic authority work together to enable and constrain democratic consolidation. This study seeks to explore the opportunities and challenges of sustaining democratic governance in Nigeria in the light of the current socio-cultural values. A PRISMA 2020-required qualitative literature review was used to synthesize peer-reviewed articles, scholarly monographs, and institutional reports that took place from 2021 to 2026 based on the cultural theory of democracy. Findings identified that the primary challenges to sustaining democratic processes are the ethno-regional politics, patron-client networks, marginalisation of women and youth and low civic culture, while communal deliberative culture, faith-based civic mobilisation, and traditional institutions provide opportunities for democratic deepening. The reforms required for sustainable democracy in Nigeria must be culturally based, in addition to institutional changes. The study suggests culturally appropriate governance reforms, organized inter-ethnic dialogue and civic education via indigenous institutions to enhance democratic sustainability.

Abstract
This study investigates the economic consequences of climate change on Coastal Real Estate Values (CREVs) in Nigeria, focusing on high-risk urban areas such as Lagos, Rivers and Delta State. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research combines geospatial analysis, property market data (2010-2023), and stakeholder interviews to evaluate the correlation between climate-induced hazards and property value trends. Satellite imagery and GIS tools were used to assess shoreline retreat and flood exposure, while regression analysis measured the impact of flooding frequency on real estate prices. Findings reveal a statistically significant negative correlation (r = -0.68, p < 0.01) between flood incidents and property values in low-lying coastal zones. Property prices in high-risk areas have declined by 22-35% over the past decade, with Lagos’ Lekki corridor experiencing the steepest drop. Insurance costs have risen by up to 40%, and mortgage financing has tightened due to perceived environmental risk. Qualitative data indicate growing investor hesitation and increased displacement among low-income populations. The study concludes that climate change is a critical driver of real estate devaluation along Nigeria’s coast. It recommends urgent policy interventions, including climate-resilient urban planning, improved coastal defenses, and climate risk disclosure in real estate transactions to mitigate long-term economic losses.

Abstract
This study evaluated and compared the micronutrient profile and sensory properties of Tom-Brown, a traditional Nigerian weaning cereal produced from a blend of maize, millet, soybeans, and groundnuts, using two processing methods: fermented and roasted (Sample A) and roasted only (Sample B). Micronutrient analysis revealed significant differences (p < .05) between the two samples. Sample A exhibited significantly higher levels of vitamin B9 (32.40 ± 0.01 µg), vitamin C (1.90 ± 0.01 mg), vitamin B6 (0.36 ± 0.01 mg), vitamin B2 (0.06 ± 0.01 mg), and vitamin K (0.22 ± 0.01 mg) than Sample B. Notably, the iron content of Sample A (9.13 ± 0.04 mg) closely approached the FAO/WHO-recommended range of 9.30–11.00 mg, while Sample B provided 8.31 ± 0.01 mg. Conversely, roasting in Sample B resulted in higher phosphorus (236.00 ± 1.41 mg) and magnesium (110.50 ± 0.71 mg). When compared with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) baseline for complementary foods, both samples demonstrated highly satisfactory mineral scores, particularly for phosphorus, magnesium, iron, and zinc, making “Tom-Brown” an excellent, cost-effective formulation for combating infant protein-energy and micronutrient malnutrition. Sensory evaluation indicated that the fermented sample (Sample A) had an enhanced, characteristic nutty aroma that was preferred in traditional weaning foods. Keywords: Complementary Food, Infants, Breast Feeding, Amino Acid, Formulation

This repository contains data supporting the techno-scientific and materials engineering analysis of Pre-Columbian Guayupe ceramics. The archaeological materials come from Cluster-89, an 8.7-hectare site on alluvial terraces in the Andean foothills, where excavations revealed domestic areas with lithic tools, ceramic fragments, and funerary urns. Radiocarbon dates from these contexts indicate a human occupation spanning 777 to 536 cal BP. The dataset provides comprehensive evidence of ancient ceramic technology and temper analysis, including radiocarbon dating records, Raman spectroscopy spectra, and the physical characteristics of four distinct Guayupe ceramic groups.
This dataset contains:
The "Supp_1 R Code" folder contains the R code for the statistical analyses and the raw data for those analyses.
The "Supp_2. Petrographic analysis" folder contains the initial petrographic analysis report (PDF) for the ceramic materials analyzed.
The "Supp_3. SEM-EDS" folder contains the observations made and images acquired for each sample, based on the initially determined ceramic types.
The folder named Supp_4 XRD contains the XRD spectra for each analyzed sample corresponding to each initially defined type.
The folder named "Supp_5. Raman" contains the files for the signal obtained with Raman for sample T916

AbstractOsteoporosis is a chronic metabolic bone disorder associated with reduced bone mass, deterioration of bone microarchitecture and increased fracture risk. Bone health depends on the balance between bone formation by osteoblasts and bone resorption by osteoclasts. This study develops a deterministic mathematical model for osteoporosis progression by coupling normalised bone density with osteoblast and osteoclast activities and by incorporating nutritional and pharmacological controls. In response to the mathematical inconsistency identified in the original submission, the bone-density equation is reformulated to include homeostatic remodelling, while positive recruitment terms are introduced for the cellular compartments. The resulting equilibrium is explicitly derived and the complete Jacobian spectrum is obtained. Unlike the original formulation, the corrected system has three non-zero eigenvalues under the stated parameter restrictions, permitting a meaningful local asymptotic stability result. An optimal-control problem is then solved using Pontryagin's Maximum Principle, with adjoint equations, transversality conditions and bounded control characterisation. Numerical simulations are performed with Python using an adaptive Runge–Kutta method and a forward–backward sweep algorithm. The corrected results show that combined control maintains bone density substantially closer to its reference level while suppressing excess osteoclast activity. The revised formulation therefore provides a mathematically consistent framework for studying intervention strategies for osteoporosis progression.
