Community Lab IDE: A Province You Can Run. An actuarial agent-based microsimulation of a South African province, with published bases, double-entry books, a burial society and paired experiments on a local worker pool.
Working paper, Draft v0.1 (6 October 2026), circulated for comment. Describes Community Lab IDE 0.1.0.
Summary
Community Lab IDE is an independent, offline desktop application for actuarial agent-based simulation. It runs Unity Province, a fictional South African province of three cities and about 400 residents. Every person in it is an agent who is born, schooled, employed, married, taken ill, insured, taxed, widowed and buried on published bases. Every rand they earn, spend, insure, borrow and pay in tax is posted to hash-chained double-entry books, and the province's national accounts are read from those books. A burial society insures the residents, a mutual bank lends to them, and a monetary policy committee sets their interest rate.
Mortality follows the eight-parameter Heligman–Pollard law, re-solved to Statistics South Africa's 2024 mid-year estimates (life expectancy at birth of 63.6 years for men and 69.2 for women). Fertility follows an age-specific schedule scaled to the published total fertility rate of 2.41. The paper describes the model in the ODD protocol and writes down every hazard that carries actuarial weight.
Main results
Experience analysis with a known truth. Because the generating basis is known exactly, the province is an experience-analysis bench with an answer key. Pooled over 16 seeds of 30 years, it dies at A/E = 0.839 of its basis (exact 95% interval 0.80 to 0.88). It is on the basis below age 45 and at about two-thirds of it from age 75. The paper reports this calibration gap openly. It also gives a dispersion test, the credibility arithmetic (nF ≈ 1,082 deaths, about 290 province-years), and a decomposition of a fitted table's error that only a known truth allows.
The burial society. The society is priced by the equivalence principle and measured by classical risk theory, including the adjustment coefficient, Lundberg's bound ψ(u) ≤ e−Ru and the Cramér–Lundberg approximation. Its simulated one-year 99.5% capital requirement is nine times the SAM standard formula's. The reason is pool size: with 332 lives, the society's risk is the count of deaths, not their level.
Paired experiments on common random numbers. The experiments measure their own gain, with variance reduction factors ranging from 31 for the population to 1.6 for the society's reserve. The paper explains why that gain decays in an agent-based model. The experiments cover SAM's life stresses lived through, premium adequacy, and the fiscal cost of raising the older persons grant.
A province in books. The paper includes worked journal entries, a PAYE computation on the 2026/27 tables, household and government statements on IFRS for SMEs lines, and three-approach national accounts. It also reports two features of the economy that depart from South Africa's: a tight labour market and a narrow bank.
Software and reproducibility
Every result can be rebuilt from its seed and basis. Each stochastic submodel draws from its own named xoshiro128** stream, and every export carries a basis hash. Runs reproduce bit for bit across platforms and builds. The IDE adds a workbench of plain-text province, experiment and script files, run on a local pool of worker threads.

This technical manifesto (ED-9921-V10-GEN) is a design concept that needs lots of work, it introduces Version 10.0 of the Project Genesis: Noble Storm Platform, an advanced open-hardware blueprint for a decentralized, non-nuclear kinetic-thermal recycling engine. The document details how a high-velocity noble gas vortex can be magnetically and acoustically stabilized to bypass traditional thermodynamic limits, converting internal friction heat and external ambient light natively into electricity. It charts the platform's multi-scale infrastructure—from 421.15 kW city substations and 250 kW residential basement vaults down to a 5.0 kW tactical suitcase generator featuring hybrid lithium/sodium carbon nanotube thermal-chemical batteries. Finally, the text establishes strict mechanical parameters for a hermetically sealed, vacuum-packed yttrium-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) ceramic core reinforced with a tungsten-diamond micro-mesh, ensuring absolute immunity to nuclear-grade electromagnetic pulses (EMPs), zero gas leakage, and a maintenance-free lifespan exceeding a century.

Diagnosing a crop disease is only the first step; farmers also require clear, trustworthy guidance on how to treat it. This paper presents AgriViT-LLM, a two-stage system that first classifies the disease and estimates its severity using a dual-head Vision Transformer (DualHeadViT), then generates Integrated Pest Management (IPM) treatment recommendations using a retrieval-augmented Large Language Model (LLM). The treatment advice is grounded in a curated set of documents from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), so recommendations can be traced back to a real source rather than the model's own guesswork. The classifier is trained on 49,144 images covering 46 in-distribution disease classes drawn from three public datasets (PlantVillage, Cotton, Banana) plus a field-image set (PlantDoc); three additional PlantVillage classes (Citrus HLB, Grape Esca, Tomato YLCV) are deliberately withheld to test how the system handles diseases it has never seen (out-of-distribution, or OOD). DualHeadViT reaches 99.10% accuracy on the held-out test set. The treatment module fine-tunes a Qwen2.5-7B language model, first with supervised fine-tuning and then with Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) against a transparent, six-part reward, reasoning over evidence retrieved with a hybrid BM25+FAISS search and crop-aware re-ranking (a Search-R1-style approach). Controlled experiments show that both retrieval and GRPO matter: removing retrieval causes treatment quality to collapse on diseases the model has not seen before, and GRPO training raises the IPM score from 38.3 to 62.3 compared with supervised fine-tuning alone, mainly by making the recommendations more complete. Ablating architectural components (the dual head, severity head, and MixUp augmentation) makes little difference to already-saturated in-distribution accuracy, but each one consistently helps the model generalise better to real field photos. Overall, the system produces verifiable, well-sourced bio-pesticide, chemical, and cultural treatment recommendations — closing a gap left by systems that only classify the disease.

This article investigates the pragmastylistic characteristics of antonymic phraseological units in English and Uzbek. The study focuses on stable expressions containing semantically opposite components and examines how such oppositions function at semantic, pragmatic, and stylistic levels. The research applies descriptive, contrastive, semantic, contextual, and pragmastylistic methods. The analysis demonstrates that antonymic phraseological units in both languages perform several important communicative functions, including intensification, inclusiveness, totality, continuity, evaluation, contrast, emotional emphasis, and inevitability. The findings also show that formally different phraseological units may perform similar pragmatic functions in English and Uzbek. Consequently, functional and pragmatic equivalence is often more significant than literal correspondence in contrastive analysis and translation. The results contribute to comparative phraseology, pragmatics, stylistics, translation studies, and intercultural communication.
