We present a dataset tailored for monitoring vehicle activity in a rural environment, specifically the Barranco de Poqueira region, covering the municipalities of Pampaneira, Bubión, and Capileira within the Sierra Nevada National Park, Granada, Spain. The dataset is generated by four Hikvision License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras, capturing vehicle entries and exits in each village. To enrich the dataset, we include additional contextual details such as vacation calendars, vehicle origins, and socio-demographic information. Spanning from February 2022 to May 2026, the dataset is organized into three files: one with raw data directly from the cameras, another aggregated at the visit level with contextual information, and a third aggregated by vehicles with context details. With potential applications in mobility studies, urban planning, tourism, and socio-demographic analysis.
The RAW_SMART_POQUEIRA.csv file contains information about 4 variables: num_plate_ID, camera_ID, date, and direction.

This article presents the results of the EU-funded Bio4HUMAN project, which has investigated the potential of bio-based solutions to improve solid waste management in protracted humanitarian crises. The project focused on two case studies: Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan. The project combined waste characterization in those locations, stakeholder engagement, and Life Cycle Assessment to evaluate the performance of bio-based products and organic waste valorization technologies. The research provides evidence-based recommendations to support the adoption of sustainable and circular waste management practices in humanitarian operations.

The Second Annual UCT Wellbeing & Flourishing Conference, under the theme Flourishing Within and Beyond Fractures, brings together researchers, practitioners, students and institutional leaders to explore what makes flourishing possible amid challenge, change and fracture.
Moving across human possibility and Flourishability, higher education, belonging, disability and participation, self-awareness, leadership, resilience, Ubuntu, collective flourishing, hope and climate change, the conference considers flourishing not simply as an individual outcome, but as something shaped by relational, institutional and social conditions.
Across plenaries, parallel sessions and reflective conversations, the programme asks a shared question:
What must remain possible for people, communities and institutions to flourish?

Each year, Future Earth, The Earth League, and the World Climate Research Programme gather leading scholars from around the world to review the most pressing findings in climate change research. The result is the 10 New Insights in Climate Science, delivered as two self-standing products: a peer-reviewed academic article and this science-policy report providing a rich and valuable synthesis for policymakers and society at large. The scientific evidence underpinning this year’s report was published between January 2025 and June 2026.
For policymakers responding to the urgent challenge of the climate crisis, the 10 New Insights in Climate Science 2026/2027 offers credible guidance throughout 2026 and beyond.Visit: 10insightsclimate.science
Insights At a Glance
1. Ocean heat content keeps climbing as Earth’s energy imbalance grows. The ocean continues to absorb massive amounts of excess heat, in step with Earth’s energy imbalance, locking in warming for decades to come. Given this lag, deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions are urgently needed to prevent further long-term heat accumulation.
2. Sea level rise in a warming world: acceleration, ice mass loss, and long-term commitment. Ice mass loss and thermal expansion are driving sea level rise. Even without further warming, irreversible change is already locked in, making adaptation essential. The prospect of these committed changes underlines the urgency of near-term mitigation.
3. Water gaps widen as continental drying accelerates. Climate change and growing water use are causing the rapid loss of freshwater across continents, threatening water security, ecosystems, and food production. The consequences of inaction extend from threats to local livelihoods to cascading impacts across the Earth system.
4. A larger overshoot of 1.5°C increases the risk of irreversible impacts, forces greater reliance on carbon dioxide (CO₂) removal, and narrows adaptation options. Reversing surface warming cannot undo century-scale changes in slow-responding systems like oceans, glaciers, ice sheets, and permafrost. As we approach overshoot, mitigation must expand beyond net zero towards net-negative targets and adaptation planning must prepare for peak warming conditions.
5. Bundled interventions for food system transformation can deliver major gains for human health and planetary stability. A shift towards plant-rich diets is the primary demand-side lever for creating critical “option space” to meet climate and environmental goals, while improving human health. Realising these co-benefits and managing potential impacts on labour demand, requires cross-sectoral policies that minimise trade-offs and support a just transition.
6. The social cost of carbon has been severely underestimated. The economic damages caused by carbon emissions are substantially higher than previously estimated, and every extra tonne of CO₂ carries additional risk. Using more realistic, up-to- date climate models reveal a social cost of carbon (SCC) up to four times higher.
7. Advances in attribution science demonstrate individual emitters’ climate impact. Scientific advances now enable tracing the full causal chain from emissions to impact, enough to link a specific harm to a specific actor’s emissions. This strengthens the evidence available for accountability, litigation, and for loss and damage discussions.
8. Climate clubs can limit carbon leakage, but fairness shapes their feasibility and effectiveness. Linking climate action to trade measures can help accelerate industrial decarbonisation and limit carbon leakage. However, careful design is essential to avoid imposing disproportionate adjustment costs on developing economies in order to secure political legitimacy and environmental effectiveness.
9. Organised obstruction prevents effective climate policy through denial, delay, dilution and distraction. Coordinated efforts driven by carbon-intensive industries have expanded beyond outright science denial to subtler tactics, including greenwashing, promoting misleading solutions, and spreading digital disinformation at scale.
10. Just energy transition threatened by geopolitical risks and fragmentation. Geopolitical instability can accelerate the clean-energy transition in some countries, while deepening fossil fuel reliance in others, increasing the risk of an unequal global transition.

This dataset documents primary and documentary sources used in research on the history and memorialisation of Drobytskyi Yar, a Holocaust mass killing and burial site in Kharkiv, Ukraine. It contains source-level metadata for newspaper materials, museum periodicals, memoirs and testimonies, digitised archival materials, and documentation of memorial practices from the Soviet and post-Soviet periods. The dataset records source provenance, bibliographic information where available, source type, repository and access information, preservation and verification status, and the evidentiary role of individual items. Particular attention is given to local and digitally accessible sources whose long-term online availability may be uncertain.Version 1.0 comprises 12 source records assembled for the study “Governing the Dead, Making Place: Drobytskyi Yar and the Afterlives of a Holocaust Burial Landscape.” The dataset is metadata-first: third-party scans and other copyrighted reproductions are not included where reuse rights have not been established. The deposit includes CSV and XLSX versions of the metadata and a README documenting the dataset structure and methodology.
